What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Thommanon is praised as a beautifully preserved, tranquil Hindu temple with stunning 1100s carvings, often overlooked by larger tours. Visitors appreciate its excellent condition due to restoration and the peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere, making it a rewarding stop for those with extra time or seeking a quieter experience.
"I would advise to visit it if you have a lot of time.
Thommanon is a small but beautiful temple which was built around the same time as Angkor Wat and in the same style. It seems to be part of a pair of temples which includes Chau Say Tevoda. However, it’s in much better condition than Chau Say Tevoda because of the extensive restoration works carried out in the 1960s.
The carvings here are in excellent condition and are one of the main reasons why you should take the time to visit Thommanon during your visit to the temples at Angkor."

"Thommanon Temple is a stunning but often overlooked gem near Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. Built in the 12th century during the reign of King Suryavarman II, this small but beautifully preserved Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu.Thommanon is small, but its charm and historical significance make it a must-see for temple enthusiasts. If you love Khmer architecture without the crowds, don’t miss this underrated treasure! Visit early morning or late afternoon for the best lighting"

"It's impressive and not so well known from the public, as I can see either on the fewer reviews here as well as one of the less busiest temples that tourists and group tours seem to show to their gentle tourists. I Went there around 4.15pm and I was the only wandering around trying to glimpse and catch some nice details, engraves and symmetrical pictures and shapes so you can appreciate how everything in here is so well made in terms of architecture, mathematics and use of materials that endure the worst weather for a very long time. Long ago, it was even surrounded by a lake, hence the flat and clean ground in front of Thommanon."
