What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Golden Sands offers a classic beach resort experience with a lively atmosphere and plenty of amenities, though some find it has become overdeveloped and crowded. Visitors praise the beautiful sandy beaches and the fun of the aquaparks, while others lament the loss of its former charm and issues with cleanliness. It's a destination that excels for those seeking a bustling, entertainment-filled holiday, particularly on a budget.
"It's my favourite self-catering holiday apartment at Iglika-1, ap 21 with panoramic seaview, clean, comfortable beds. The welcome basket, provided by the private hostess, was packet with delissiouse fruits, wine, homemade bread, butter, milk, cheese, and freerange eggs from local farmers."

"The glory of Golden sand resort has fallen.
It used to be the Golden place, the Bulgarian Riviera back in the years, not anymore, unfortunately.
Overbuild , overcrowded, over shops , everything is to much in little space. Not to mention the cleanliness on the streets, terrible and not acceptable. There isn’t adequate service to clean the resort and it’s overflowing. Totally disappointed.
The buildings are so many and next to each other not allowing any air to come , neither Green space to cool it down.
Wouldn’t spend a holiday there ."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider booking accommodation with family rooms or apartments that offer more space and self-catering facilities. While the resort can be lively, focusing on hotels slightly away from the main nightlife strip can ensure a more peaceful stay for younger children. Exploring the aquaparks offers a full day of fun for all ages. [^Review]
💸 Budget Travelers
Opting for self-catering apartments or guesthouses can significantly reduce costs compared to full-service hotels. Eating at local 'mehanas' (traditional taverns) rather than beachfront restaurants can also save money. Look for deals and discounts, particularly for longer stays or off-season visits.
🎉 Party Goers
Many resorts are located close to the action, making it easy to hop between venues. Be prepared for a lively and sometimes loud atmosphere, especially during the summer season.

Understanding the Golden Sands Experience
However, it's important to note that the resort has undergone significant development, leading to a high density of hotels, restaurants, and shops. While this provides ample amenities and a lively atmosphere, some visitors find it can feel overcrowded and commercialized, particularly during the peak summer months of July and August. For those seeking a more tranquil experience, visiting during the shoulder seasons or exploring the quieter southern parts of the resort might be preferable. [^Review]
The resort is also a popular destination for package holidays, with many all-inclusive options available. This makes it an accessible and often budget-friendly choice for many European travelers. The proximity to Varna, a major city with an international airport, further enhances its accessibility.
Beyond the Beach: Exploring the Surroundings
For a dose of history and charm, a day trip to the Old Town of Nessebar is highly recommended. This UNESCO World Heritage site, located on a small peninsula, boasts ancient ruins, medieval churches, and picturesque cobblestone streets. The sunsets here are particularly breathtaking.
If you're interested in nature, the Golden Sands Nature Park surrounds the resort, offering hiking trails and opportunities to explore the local flora and fauna. This provides a refreshing contrast to the bustling resort atmosphere.
Accommodation and Value
When considering hotels, look for those that offer amenities like aquaparks or are within easy walking distance of the beach. Some hotels, like the Aphrodite Hotel, are family-run and situated in the heart of the resort, close to amenities. While prices can be higher during peak summer, Golden Sands is often considered a budget-friendly destination compared to other European beach resorts, especially if you take advantage of deals in September.
