What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Bulgarka Nature Park for its stunning natural beauty, especially the vibrant autumn foliage, and its rich historical sites like the Shipka and Buzludzha Monuments. It's noted as a quieter, more underrated gem compared to other Bulgarian parks, offering a peaceful escape. Some find access to certain monuments challenging, and signage could be improved for easier navigation.
"It's beautiful in the Autumn"
Mihail Rechnikov
"Beautiful, but underrated Bulgarian Park - perhaps because it has "Protected" and "Nature Park" status rather than "National Park" designation. It's in the Stara Planina, just 20km to the east of the wonderful Central Balkan National Park.
No matter, it's still lovely... and at nearly 24,000 hectares it's quite large. It sits between the cities of Gabrovo and Kazanluk, and includes 11 villages in the municipalities of Gabrovo, Tryavna and Maglizh.
It includes the beautiful Sokolski Monastery, the Etara enthographic village, the Shipka Monument (a 30m high memorial at 1,300m on Shipka Peak), and the famed Buzludzha Monument (at 1,400m on the Buzludzha peak). As well as the large beech forest near these peaks."

Access to Buzludzha can be challenging and sometimes restricted, so it's wise to check local conditions before your visit.
Beyond these two iconic sites, the park also encompasses the Sokolski Monastery, a beautifully preserved 19th-century religious complex, and the Etara Ethnographic Village, an open-air museum that recreates traditional Bulgarian life and crafts.
