O Museu Asas de Um Sonho (ou Museu da TAM) foi um projeto de vida idealizado por Rolim Adolfo Amaro (1942-2001), fundador e presidente da TAM Linhas Aéreas e seu irmão João Francisco Amaro, contendo aeronaves de diversos países e períodos históricos.
Começou após a restauração de um Cessna surgiu a ideia de uma pequena coleção particular que foi se expandido com a aquisição e doação de aeronaves, e adquirindo outros itens relacionados, como objetos de aviação, modelos e equipamentos.
Foi inaugurado em 11 de Novembro de 2006, data de 150 anos da cidade de São Carlos. E julho de 2008, o Museu entrou em reforma para expandir sua antiga área construída coberta, de 9,5 mil m² para mais de 20 mil m² e foi reaberto em 13 de junho de 2010. Se tornou o maior museu aeroespacial privado do mundo e pulou do acervo original de 32 para mais de 100 aeronaves.
Foi um sucesso durante alguns anos, mas voltou a fechar em 29 de janeiro de 2016, após a fusão da TAM com a Latam (formando a atual LATAM, processo que havia se iniciado em 2010) devido a crise econômica, baixa nas visitações e ao custo de mais de 300 mil reais mensais. A data de reabertura não foi informada na ocasião.
Em Março de 2023, João Amaro (irmão do falecido Rolim) e o prefeito de São Carlos, Airton Garcia assinaram um protocolo para a reabertura do Museu, e as licitações começaram em maio, com reabertura prevista (inicialmente) em Setembro de 2023, através de um projeto público-privado.
O Museu vai reabrir de forma gratuita e limitada inicialmente aos finais de semana, e com a adição de mais veículos, como a a coleção de tratores para se juntar ao acervo que havia começado a reunir automóveis antigos.
Visitei o Museu antes do fechamento, e realmente é um marco nacional em termos de Museu aeroespacial, com muitas aeronaves raras e espaço bem agradável. O sonho de visitação de muitas famílias e amantes da avião."
