What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking sunrise views from Pedra Selada's summit, describing it as a magical experience. The accessible hike and the beautiful surrounding nature, including the Atlantic Forest and the visitor center's orchid garden, are frequently praised. Some note a lack of infrastructure for ecotourism, but the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive.
"This is a visitor and information hub for those interested in the Pedra Selada park. Inside the building, there are photo exhibitions, video presentations about the mountains and it's vegetation, and, at the back of the property, there's a beautiful orchid garden with lots of different species, as well as a nursery for native species of the mantiqueira mountains. When we went down there for a visit, a local employee of INEA (state Institute for the environment) received us with a big smile on his face, and told us all above the nursery project, and how they serve the community by educating children at local schools and holding events on the topic of taking care of the environment. The INEA employee also took us on a tour of the plants showcasing at the centre, and briefly explained to us about the beehive hotel, which, initially, was especially built for children to learn more about bees and their importance to the ecosystem, but, it turned out to be a place where certain types of bees are well taken care of, while other species came to built their nest in search of protection and safety. We had a really nice at the Pedra Selada centre, and we still were offered to choose any species we'd like to take home and grown them on our own to fully enjoy all of its nutritional benefits. Some plants found here cannot indeed be found at local supermarkets in the big cities. It must be really special to live here. Some of the species found here are freely donated to local community members in need as a way to take full care of those living in poverty. It's a great place to take kids, as they are expanding the centre, so soon there'll be more green areas and events for school aged children to learn more about tropical and mountain vegetation, and it's surrounding environmental richness. They also have maps available, and other explanatory leaflets for visitors to take home as a token."
