What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Mercado Municipal for its authentic charm, delicious local snacks like pastel and 'bolinho caipira', and the availability of fresh, affordable produce. While some note areas for improvement in cleanliness and organization, the market's historic character and lively atmosphere make it a unique and worthwhile experience.
"Cleaning could be better and the little stores could be standardized by the sellers to show more organization, although it's a old building with old business owners. Nevertheless the place has his charm and peculiarity, and the Brazilian Pastel is also quite delicious."

"Just like the good old days!!
Awesome place to eat pastel at the “Barraca da Sonia” there is a sweet/candy made out of “burned” coconut meat that is the best in the whole wide world!!
Lots of options of places to eat at, places to buy fishing gear and lots of butchers can also be found inside the Market!
All the others stuff that we usually find at markets can be found in there also!!
Not very easy to find places to park your car but there are payed/private cars park around the market!
A must if you like “mercadões municipais”
You can try a “bolinho caipira” regional food that is very easy to find in between the months of June/July but “barraca da Sonia” serves it all year around.
Check it out!"

"If you want fresh meat/fish, it looks decent. If looking to get hustled by fruit vendors, this is the right place. I found one stall selling what I wanted: goiaba seca. The atmosphere is best enjoyed from an upstairs cafe."
