What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Jardim Botânico Sorocaba to be a place with significant potential, offering free entry and beautiful natural elements like gardens and a glasshouse. However, many are disappointed by the apparent lack of maintenance, with reports of unkempt grounds and missing amenities.
"Scandal, extremely disappointed. Park is abandoned appears to not be maintained over 2 years. No public restroom, no signs or washed out with age. Areas are not marked. Good place to drop a dead body, would not be found for days! Only couple we saw warned is not to touch anything! Plants dying for lack of water but we see empty buildings with air conditioner on! You can jump the turnstiles in front or arrive by car from the back. We do not suggest anyone come here when it gets dark. Taxi service cost us R$56 from here to Iguatemi shopping."
Howard Rubin
"The grounds have marvelous potential, unfortunately they're a bit forgotten and run- down. Still, depending on the weather, it's pleasant and FREE. So one can't complain too much."
Craig Washington
"Beautiful place but not much to do. It's a good place to hang out with the family and take some pictures."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider bringing your own snacks and drinks, and perhaps a blanket for a picnic. The city views can also be an interesting point of discussion for kids. While it might not be as engaging as a dedicated children's park, it offers a chance to connect with nature in a low-cost setting.
💰 Budget Travelers
However, remember that the lack of amenities means you'll need to be self-sufficient. Pack your own water, snacks, and anything else you might need. The free entry makes it a worthwhile visit if you're looking for affordable activities, but be mindful of the trade-offs in terms of facilities.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
While the park's maintenance might not be perfect, this can sometimes add a rustic charm to photos. Look for interesting textures, light patterns, and the interplay between nature and the existing structures. Keep an eye out for any sculptures that might add an artistic touch to your compositions. The free entry means you can spend as much time as you need to find the perfect shot without worrying about time limits.

Navigating the Grounds: Potential vs. Reality
Despite these challenges, the free entry is a significant draw. This means you can experience the natural elements without a financial barrier. However, this also means that upkeep might be limited. Some visitors have noted that plants appear to be dying from lack of water, contrasting with visible signs of energy use in empty buildings. It's a place where the potential for a beautiful botanical experience is evident, but the current reality leans towards a more rustic, unpolished visit.
For those planning a visit, it's crucial to manage expectations. Think of it as a place to appreciate nature's resilience and enjoy a quiet walk, rather than a meticulously curated garden. The advice to wear comfortable shoes is paramount, as the grounds are hilly and spread out, and clear pathways might not always be present.
Photography and Social Media Appeal
Beyond the static beauty, there are occasional events and activities that add dynamism. For instance, science and education projects have been hosted here, involving nature observation and documentation, which can be a unique angle for content creators. The city views from higher points in the garden also offer a different perspective, blending urban landscapes with nature.
While the park's maintenance issues might detract from a pristine visual experience, the inherent beauty of the trees and gardens, combined with the architectural elements, still provides ample opportunities for photography. It's a place where creativity can shine, even if some areas are less manicured than one might expect. The key is to focus on the natural light and the unique aspects of the garden.
