"This was a fun experience given the evolution of the site. A small family run business with Senor Jose spending over 30 years building this replica of ancient Mayan ruins in a modern day setting. His techniques are all historical in practice and hand made.
We were given a quick tour due to our littles being restless. There is a small cave we were able to go inside and saw a bat. After walking around the site in progress, we opted to cross the street and hike up to their observation tower.
This is a steep hike that is very slippery after rainfall. There were portions of the trail that we had to hold hands and side step down due to how slick and steep it was. We are experienced hikers so it wasn't a problem, just something to note.
The tower has spectacular views of the area. Highly recommend."

Unlike other Maya sites, Sak Tunich is being built by modern-day Maya descendants, making it a living testament to their culture and craftsmanship.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Rubin Magaña and several of his family members. Rubin’s passion and enthusiasm were infectious as he guided us through the site, explaining its history, purpose, and ongoing construction. His knowledge was extensive, and he genuinely seemed to enjoy answering our questions, making for one of the best tours we had in Belize.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Sak Tunich is that it is a work in progress, being constructed using traditional Maya methods. This hands-on dedication to preserving and promoting Maya heritage is truly inspiring. We were captivated by the intricately carved stonework, ceremonial areas, and the rich cultural history embedded in every corner.

"Very neat experience! Smaller, family owned property with beautiful Mayan art and culture tour. Beverly is very knowledgeable! The gift shop has great authentic Mayan gifts. It was a nice little spot with kids.
We didn’t get to hike up to their tower because it had rained a lot and was too slippery, but I’d guess it’s pretty amazing. Worth a stop and a great way to support local Mayan culture."
