We visited in cold December a few days before Christmas, which was also the season during the historic battle. It gave us a sense of what it must have been like for the soldiers.
The sunset is incredibly beautiful here! The soldiers' memorial rests peacefully against the backdrop of the countryside.
Wear boots, because there are some wet areas if it rained recently. The forest floor was covered in peat, which made it soft and mostly mud-free. Beware of branches that are tripping hazards and lots of low cobwebs. There is a warning sign about ticks, which might be a problem during warmer weather."
