What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are drawn to the Yanka Kupala State University's former Jesuit Collegium for its striking historical architecture and photogenic walls. The surrounding city of Grodno is praised for its beauty and welcoming atmosphere. However, international students have reported challenges with the admissions process, including lengthy medical checks and potential administrative errors.
"I am not writing this to complain, my main goal is to inform other foreign students how to things work in Yanka Kupala, so they can survive the application period unlike me.
I've spent 2 interesting weeks in beautiful Grodno trying to apply for a masters degree in Yanka Kupala university.
I'll start from the begining, when I asked for information and applied for an invitation letter, the head of the international students department was very polite and informing, I've received the letter soon (my name was missing on the envelope, 'first warning'...). When I arrived to Grodno they welcomed me well, I've given a place to stay in the dormitory also. But then....
Long days in the Belarusian hospitals and polyclinics started to prove that I am healthy (even though I've done the previosly asked analyzes in Turkey), this was very depressing, dirty and long, I am not talking about the disinfection process.
After 2 weeks long medical examination and 3 exams, as a masters degree student I've found myself as a bachelor degree student. The excuse of the head of the international students department was simple: 'our staff is working automatically and made a mistake, sorry'.
Actually the aproach of the all staff, from the beginning until the end was lacking of any kind of attention or basic sympathy to students (I am not an exception), 'some of them' were even 'rude' including the lady who was responsible of masters degree students.
So, be carefull! try to be more demanding and ask about everything until you get the right answers and true information. Grodno is beautiful, clean and historical city and Belarusians are in general kind and nice people, but not all of them..."
