What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Sheikh Ebrahim House as a beautifully restored cultural gem in Muharraq, offering a deep dive into Bahrain's history and the legacy of Sheikh Ebrahim. The friendly staff and the chance to experience traditional architecture are frequently highlighted. Some find parking challenging in the old town.
"He was born in the year 1850 AD.
His father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa, was the fourth ruler of Bahrain from 1842 AD to 1869 AD.
His first academic trip was to Mecca in the 1970s, where he had the opportunity to study with its sheikhs.
He sought to acquire knowledge by all means, as was conveyed by his correspondence to Arab and foreign capitals requesting books and periodicals, which formed his own library in his council in Muharraq, which was the meeting place for pioneers of culture and education, and where Arab writers from the Gulf to North Africa visited him.
The Bahraini government advisor, Charles Belgrave, wrote about him in his diary on July 30, 1929, as follows:
“I went with the Political Commissioner to visit Sheikh Ibrahim, who is a wonderful person, abundant in knowledge and culture, and proficient in many specialties.”
A center bearing his name was opened at the site of his council in Muharraq to be a center for cultural activity and research.
- He died on July 14, 1933 AD."
