"At the current address of Graben 14, a house owned by Dietrich the Urbetsch was documented as early as the time of Duke Albrecht II the Lame (1339-1358). In the 16th century, a beautiful three-story Renaissance building was erected on the site of the low-rise predecessor, which was considered one of the most interesting and beautiful of its time. This house was frequently depicted as the "Arcade House on the Graben." The beautiful spiral staircase, reaching up to the third floor, along with the round-arched arcades in the courtyard, particularly captivated every visitor. In the 18th century, the first Schanigarten (at that time a "lemonade tent with refreshing water") was opened here in the Cafe Taroni by Johann Jakob Tarone. For an incredible 380,000 guilders, the current building, the "Graben-Hof", was built between 1873 and 1876 according to plans by Otto Thienemann and with the involvement of the famous Otto Wagner, after the demolition of the previous buildings."
