Reviews Summary

Visitors praise St. Anton for its extensive ski area and vibrant après-ski scene, offering a complete winter sports experience. However, some find the ticket pickup system inconvenient and the slopes can become very crowded, impacting the overall enjoyment. Accessibility for less mobile guests is also an area for improvement. Reddit

"We bought tickets online, because they said we can pick them up at an automat, so we don’t have to wait at the cash register, but when we arrived, we found out both of the online ticket pickup boxes where out of order, because they were not able to refill paper for the tickets. For the extremely high price I did not expect their services to be such low quality. If we did not count on the automat, we would have come for the tickets sooner in the morning, but like this we ended up waiting in the line for about 20 minutes. Otherwise the slopes were okay, but there were loads of people on most of them. Also the map was confusing and the ways of the slopes and cableways were very compilated when we wanted to go from one place to another. But there was a large number of slopes in many different towns, so we could at least find some slopes just to our liking."

"Quite lots of people
But after 930am, not many people are on the queue
Great experience!"

"The stairs need a ramp and moving stairs.
A lift is needed for okder, less mobile guests.
Can get VERY crowded.
Time to upgrade from 8 seater to a 12 seater."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Arlberg Ski Area: A Winter Wonderland

The Nasserein Area is part of the vast Ski Arlberg region, which is Austria's largest interconnected ski area. It boasts over 300 kilometers of marked pistes and more than 200 kilometers of off-piste routes, serviced by 85 modern lifts and cable cars. This immense scale means there's something for every skier and snowboarder, from gentle beginner slopes to challenging black runs and extensive freeride terrain. TikTokInstagram

Navigating such a large area can be daunting. The trail map is comprehensive but can appear complex at first glance. It's highly recommended to study the map before you start your day, or even download a digital version to your phone. Understanding the different lift connections and piste numbers will save you time and help you discover the best runs for your ability level. Reddit

Beyond the groomed slopes, Arlberg is renowned for its off-piste opportunities. However, this terrain requires significant experience and proper safety equipment, including avalanche transceivers, probes, and shovels. For those new to off-piste, hiring a certified mountain guide is essential for a safe and rewarding experience. Instagram

Experiencing St. Anton's Après-Ski Culture

St. Anton am Arlberg is not just about the skiing; it's equally famous for its legendary après-ski scene. As the lifts close, the village comes alive with music, dancing, and a festive atmosphere. Many of the most popular spots are located directly on or near the slopes, allowing you to ski right up to them. Instagram

Iconic venues like the MooserWirt and Krazy Kanguruh are must-visit destinations for experiencing the quintessential St. Anton après-ski. Expect lively music, often starting with traditional Austrian tunes and progressing to more modern hits, accompanied by plenty of drinks and a crowd eager to celebrate their day on the mountain. Instagram

While the party atmosphere is a major draw, remember to pace yourself. The energy is infectious, but it's important to stay hydrated and be aware of your limits, especially if you plan to ski or navigate the village afterward. Many visitors find the transition from high-energy après-ski to a relaxed evening dinner to be part of the charm of a St. Anton holiday. Instagram

Photography Tips for the Arlberg

The Nasserein Area and the wider Arlberg region offer photographers a stunning backdrop of snow-capped peaks and dramatic alpine scenery. For the best light, aim for the golden hours – shortly after sunrise and before sunset. The soft, warm light can transform the snowy landscapes into something truly magical. Instagram

When shooting on the slopes, consider capturing the action. Wide-angle lenses are great for sweeping mountain vistas, while telephoto lenses can isolate skiers against the vastness of the mountains. Don't forget to capture the details too – the texture of the snow, the intricate patterns of frost, or the cozy interiors of mountain huts. Instagram

Be prepared for cold weather, which can affect camera batteries. Keeping your camera warm, perhaps in an inside pocket when not in use, can help. Also, protect your gear from moisture and snow. Many visitors find the sunset views particularly spectacular, offering a unique opportunity for dramatic shots. Instagram+1
