Started in Neder at around 7:30, went through the valley up to the Innsbrucker Hütte (2.369m) – reached it at around 10:10, did a short sandwich break and then started my climb on Habicht.
The pointer near the hut says it takes 3 hours to reach the summit, I thought I'd do it faster but I was wrong 😅 I was definitely tired already so the first 200m were okay, but then – hello ropes! There's a tricky section in the middle of the hike but still managable if you're not afraid of heights and if you're fine with your hands and legs being slightly sore.
Also, there was a moment when I though "that's it" but then I saw the ridge and realised that it might take me another 40-50 min to finally reach the summit. Well, the last 100m were absolutely menace for me😂 I was super tired already, it was really windy, but when I saw the cross becoming closer and closer, I got another wave of motivation and adrealine. So at around 13:15 I reached the summit!!
The views are incredible and the weather/visibility was just perfect – I was lucky to catch one of the last warm and sunny September days for that adventure. I was very happy to be on top of Habicht but the thoughts of the upcoming descend were scaring me😂
It took me another 2.5 hours to descend safely to the hut again. My legs were just shocked. I had a drink in the hut and then went all the way back to neder and reached the bus stop there right before the sunset – at around 19:00.
It's definitely better to split this trip in 2 days, but if you don't mind hiking 30km and gaining 2.300m+ of elevation in one day (and ofc if your fitness allows you to do so!!) – you might try this challenge. it was fun, no regrets."
