What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Volkskundemuseum to be an underrated gem offering a rich, narrative-driven exploration of Styrian culture and past life. While some wish for more storytelling context and broader historical themes, the museum is praised for its engaging exhibits like the 'smoke room' and traditional costumes, making it a worthwhile visit for those interested in local heritage.
"A very underrated museum about the Styrian culture and life from the past till now told through several themes like transportation or communication. The museum gets you to think about how things were like. There was a real wealth of information - we spent 1hour and think it's not enough despite it being a small museum. Student tickets available. Only suggestion is to give more context to what they have written and tell it more like a story. And also there was nothing on colonialism besides something on chickens in ghana. Even the holocaust was only very briefly touched upon. There are english descriptions which we appreciated."

"There are exhibitions, there is a church and a library(was closed when I visited). I can clearly suggest this museum, if you are interested in the local culture and history. I spent almost two hours in the museum."

"This museum has an interesting concept of telling a story about Graz and Styria in an unusual manner (mostly) without expensive artifacts. Howevere, many of the items displayed have a story behind them. The pearls are the "smoke room", a wooden bicycle and replicas of historic clothes. It takes 1 - 2 hours to experience the museum properly. It's surely worth of a visit."
