"I spent a June long weekend at Thredbo Alpine Resort and came away super impressed — it really lives up to its reputation as one of Australia’s best all-round ski destinations.
Thredbo offers terrain for everyone. Beginners have their own safe space at Friday Flat, with gentle slopes and easy lifts to practice without stress. Intermediates have loads to explore, and if you’re more advanced there are steep runs, long descents (the Supertrail is one of Australia’s longest) and varied terrain including terrain parks of all difficulties.
The village is charming and very walkable. There are plenty of accommodation options — from rustic lodges and self-contained apartments to premium hotels — many with excellent proximity to lifts and village amenities. Dining is strong too.
On-mountain cafés like Merritts Mountain House bring views and flavour; for après you’ve got ski-in options like Kareela Hutte, hearty pubs, and bars in the Village.

The town has a local, homey feel with plenty of restaurants and a cosy pub, and the quieter atmosphere was perfect. Snowboarding was so much fun, and Riccardo, the instructor, was great and really easy to get along with. The free shuttle bus runs regularly to take you around town, and when we left late one evening, a driver kindly radioed another shuttle on our route to pick us up.
