Reviews Summary

This rainforest walk is a hidden gem, praised for its serene atmosphere and diverse flora and fauna, especially after rain when panda snails appear. While some find the trail maintenance lacking and the 'easy' grade a stretch due to uneven, muddy paths, it's still considered a worthwhile and beautiful experience for those prepared for its natural state.

"This is a hidden gem. No one seems to know about this, as I got here at 2pm today (a Sunday that’s also a school holiday) and only two out of the seven parking lots along the road were taken. Easy circuit, just 1.4km loop. Very serene too. Just watch out for the thorny plant (last photo) that is growing out across the path. It caught me in my hair and on my jacket unawares, and I needed a couple minutes to untangle myself. I couldn’t hold the plant either because it was so sharp."

Clare Sim

"This 35-minute walk is advertised as an easy grade, which is a stretch. The walk was more a moderate grade due to no pathways, and the tracks often laden with palm fronds and rocks. The trail has not been looked after, and I find it strange as it is a couple good months since the Cyclone Alfred weather event. At times, it was difficult to determine where the path was, and at one point, there seemed to be a left and right option, both looking suspect of not being a path. Luckily, I gambled with turning left and made it out. There is one sign shortly into the walk with a left or right. Whichever one you take is ok as it is a loop. The walk is worth it, but I do suggest going in pairs as it was daunting walking alone, hence why I class this walk as moderate, not easy."

Natalie Hanau

"Great little track definitely recommend going when it raining or has been raining, yes you will get wet, fall over and get muddy but it will be beautiful."

Navigating the Rainforest Trail

The MacDonald Section features a 1.4km loop walk that immerses you in a beautiful rainforest environment. Expect uneven paths covered with palm fronds, rocks, and sometimes mud, especially after rainfall. Reddit It's advisable to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes to navigate these conditions comfortably and safely. Reddit

The trail's natural character means it's not always perfectly manicured, which adds to its charm for some. However, it can also make it challenging to follow at times, with reviewers noting instances where the path was unclear. Reddit Going in pairs is a good recommendation for added safety and enjoyment, as it can feel a bit daunting to walk alone on a less-trodden path. Reddit

Despite the challenges, the walk is considered worthwhile for its serene atmosphere and the opportunity to experience the local flora and fauna up close. Reddit Keep an eye out for thorny plants that can snag on your clothing, and be prepared for a potentially muddy but rewarding experience, particularly after a good rain.
