What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Wentworth Common's dual appeal as a vibrant family recreation hub and a significant ecological reserve. The well-maintained playgrounds and BBQ facilities make it a top choice for picnics and gatherings, while its role as a habitat for endangered frogs and diverse wildlife adds a unique educational dimension. Some find parking challenging during large events at Sydney Olympic Park.
"Wentworth Common is a designer ecosystem built on manufactured soils in the 1990s following site remediation, and hand-planted with native grasses, groundcovers, shrubs, trees and wetland plants.
Wentworth Common now provides important habitat for the Green and Golden Bell Frog, as well as a rich diversity of insectivorous bats, birds, reptiles, frogs and invertebrates. The habitats of Wentworth Common are well on the way to becoming resilient urban ecosystems that will endure into the next century and beyond.

A living grassland
The Bay Marker is enveloped by a sea of Blady Grass (Imperata cylindrica). This tall perennial grass grows in dense clumps, flowering with silky white seed heads between January and May. Blady Grass is a great soil stabiliser and provides habitat for wildlife.
Listen to the calls of male Golden-headed Cisticola in spring, Breeding males may be seen singing from tall strands of grass or performing display flights high above the grassland before diving back down into the long grass.
The circular pathway you took to reach the top is a perfect spot for sunbathing lizards during spring and summer, so please watch your step. The rocky retaining wall contains nooks and crannies for these shy lizards to retreat to if they feel threatened."

"This is such a great place for a walk in the bush, which we discovered totally by chance.
We had originally intended to go to the shipwreck lookout but since we couldn't find it we came here.
Since it was a week day there were hardly any people around so we enjoyed our walk.
A great place to bring kids over, have a picnic or BBQ or do some bird watching."

"Great for kids and BBQ
Big frog and a lizard will welcome you 🙀😊
There are two separate play grounds. One with 4 individual swings and a sandy floor for kids to play. Water tap is there for cleaning. And another one with zip-line and more. There are few electric bbq spots for preparing the food for the day. Toilets are clean and drinking water fountain are also available. Great park to spend a day with family."
