What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Garden City Heritage Precinct for its rich local history resources and the exceptional helpfulness of its staff. The historic buildings themselves offer a compelling glimpse into Melbourne's past. While primarily a research hub, the centre's engaging events also draw positive attention.
"The City of Port Phillip Heritage Centre occupies the former pensions office which was a 1918 addition to the iconic former South Melbourne Post Office building (1912) opposite the South Melbourne Town Hall. The centre provides local history research and cultural heritage program based services. As well as accessing a wealth of research materials and browsing through the reference collection, researchers can access expert advice and assistance from the Local History Team and can also attend various local history and heritage events, including presentations, displays and exhibitions that the centre runs throughout the year such the excellent presentation that I attended today on a photographic story of Melbourne through the ages. The staff at the Port Phillip Heritage Centre are super friendly and provide first class assistance. Today was my first time visit to this centre and I must specially mention both Tobias and Christian who were extremely helpful with my very questions and research interests. Highly recommend."
