It’s going to be hard to top this day of 2025! Hit the @qldmaritime Queensland Maritime Museum, it had a personal, guided tour of a warship. After that I met up with @traybould and @gardenofazrae and hit the @lonepinekoala Sanctuary and got to see some cool creatures! Finished off with a great meal and some live music at The Burrow for some food, drinks, and live music. It doesn’t get much better ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Queensland Maritime Museum for its impressive collection of historic vessels, particularly the HMAS Diamantina, and the engaging insights provided by knowledgeable volunteers. The unique events hosted, such as immersive play experiences and jazz nights, add significant appeal. While some note the museum's potential for further development, the overall sentiment is one of a worthwhile and educational visit.

"I had the absolute pleasure along with fellow members from the Carseldine Probus Club of visiting the Queensland Maritime Museum at 412 Stanley St,South Brisbane QLD 4101

Keith Boulton OAM, who is QMM Historical Walk Convener, conducts Historical Walks through the Maritime Museum and along the Brisbane River and through areas of South Bank Parklands.

Keith, along with Robyn, who is a long-time volunteer, took us for a very relaxing and informative 2-hour walk explaining in detail the history of the ever changing face the Brisbane River and South Brisbane

It was wonderful as Keith and Robyn took us back in time of what it was like work on Shore with the railway running in the area where the Maritime Museum is located.

There was a lot of production from several flour mills that were in South Brisbane. Coal was brought by rail from areas like Ipswich, ensuring that everyone was gainfully employed.

The Brisbane River was busy with shipping, taking produce to various areas along the coastline of Queensland and beyond.

Our walk also took us into the South Bank Parklands, whereas we know Expo 88 was enjoyed by millions of people attending this game-changing event.

It definitely put Brisbane and Queensland on the map.

After the walk was completed, we then had the opportunity to board the HMAS Diamantina, a warship that is located in the dry dock in the Maritime Museum along with the lugger Penguin this vessel is also located in the same location.

You definitely need time to enjoy going through HMAS Diamantina. A lot of budding sailors would get a first-time look at what people had to live with during World War 2 and beyond.

A lot of time and effort has been carried out by dedicated volunteers to maintain this ship for visitors to enjoy their time walking everywhere on this warship.

Another wonderful highlight is looking at Jessica Watson's yacht, the Pink Lady, Jessica is renowned for performing a major solo event over 16 years ago.

The Queensland Maritime Museum is opened most days of the week except Monday and Tuesdays, and visiting hours are between 10.00 am. and 4.15 pm.

I would highly recommend anyone wanting something to do when visiting South Brisbane spend time at the Queensland Maritime Museum and taking advantage of going on a historic walk with Keith Boulton or one of the dedicated volunteers."

"The staff were very warm and hospitable, introducing the museum to visitors and even offering free postcards as souvenirs. Many of the small items on sale were also rich in cultural significance.
Although I did not have time to enter the museum on this occasion, the place left a deep impression on me. Next time I come to Brisbane, I will definitely make sure to visit."

"This museum is one of the most interesting I’ve ever visited. Having the chance to step inside, see, and even touch the Diamantina, and it was truly exciting. The entire museum is full with information that can easily spark the interest of anyone—even someone like me who ended up there more or less by chance. If you’re in Brisbane, I highly recommend stopping by! You won’t regret it!"
