Bit outside of Melb but is there any really beautiful winery’s near Shepparton?

The girls and I are hoping to find a cute place for us to go on a day trip around Shepparton. And would love to go to a winery, fruit picking, or anything like that. Anywhere you guys would recommend, and if it has gluten-free options, that would be even better. Thanks :)…

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Tahbilk's rich history, stunning wetlands, and excellent wine tastings. The estate's charm, from its 1860s cellars to its serene natural landscapes, leaves a lasting impression. While some find it crowded on market days, the knowledgeable staff and delicious food at the restaurant are consistently praised.

"Terribly crowded on my first visit on Farmers Market Day on Sun 23/11/25 recently but did not detract from the festive decor & vintage charm of the interior & heritage buildings annex to this Cellar Door. Especially the pagoda like stacked Lookout Tower which used to be the signature label of Chateau Tahbilk wines.

Retail ware on offer - apart from cellar sales & wine tastings are preserves, soaps & gift items which annoyingly had no price tags on them. Smaller balcony overlooks Goulburn River with seating to enjoy the drinks.

With the crowds, staff were run off their feet but were full of good cheer 😊. I grabbed a bottle of Grenache "Mourvedre" Rose 2025 (can't go wrong with a Rose if there is no opp. for tasting) & left.

Tahbilk Estate has been on my "to visit" bucket list for decades since it flitted into my horizon by chance. Finally - made it! Lived up to the hype & then tons more! Resolved to return with friends to do a proper tour & tasting soon.

Uniquely situated along ancient waterways of the Taungurung country, the long 4+ kms drive once you enter the Estate, along avenue of trees & vines on unsealed road gives a pleasant anticipation of what awaits at the end. I did the serene & calming Wetlands Eco Trail walk through the Lagoon first, wandered through the small farmers market & after visiting cellar door - found my way to the Lagoon cruise Jetty.

Lucky me managed to get on the 2pm cruise as there were some no-shows. Thank you very much Skipper Chris & Events Co-ordinator Cody-Anne for being so kind & accommodating! 💐💐
Most memorable & enjoyable maiden venture to Tahbilk Estate. Definitely worth the long drive from Melb & will be back✨️✨️"

"Tahbilk Vineyard — absolutely worth it.

Did the $10 tasting and it was spot on. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable, and even though I’m no wine expert, they guided me through the flavours, making sure I found what I liked. Some wines hit the mark more than others, but that’s the beauty of tasting — and they matched the pours to my own notes. Ended up joining the club, walked away with 3 bottles and they threw in a 4th for free.

The history here is just as impressive as the wine. From the stories of floods to post–WW2 rebuilding, it’s clear this place has been kept alive through sheer passion and grit. The old cellars, the museum, and the stables give you a real sense of heritage — it’s more than just a vineyard, it’s living history.

The grounds are stunning too — peaceful river views, historic brick cellars, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

I’ll be back — next time to stay longer and try the food."

"This is a really cool winery to visit with so much on site to see & do. We loved how well kept this place is. Modern yet 1800’s setting & a lot of history. The a trip down the big stairs into the original cellar to check out the massive mine barrels. It really was amazing to explore. Not big wine drinkers but the complementary tastings was fun. Customer service was very nice also, the restaurant was beautiful and although we didn’t dine in we did grab a hot drink to take with us for a walk around the wetlands. Great way to spend a few hours with the family. It was a little gloomy on our visit but would love to come again during spring / summer time."
