Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Camel's Hump for its stunning panoramic views and the rewarding, yet accessible, hike. Many appreciate the opportunity for a picnic at Sanatorium Lake. However, some note the car park can be rough and advise dressing warmly due to the unpredictable summit weather.

"⁦Good views and a short walk from the car park. Well worth stopping on your way to the cross. There is a lookout at the top of the walk and also a few nice rocks to sit on just below it."

"Beautiful morning hike with friends

We visited Camels Hump with friends for an early morning hike and absolutely loved it. We arrived around 8am and the carpark was already getting busy — a few early risers and even a running group were just finishing up as we started.

The weather was crisp and clear, sitting at around 6°C — absolutely beautiful but definitely chilly! I’d highly recommend dressing warmly and wearing gloves (my fingers were frozen, and I could barely tie my shoelaces – lesson learned!).

The hike itself is beginner-friendly. There are quite a few steps, but the trail is well maintained by Parks Victoria. Even with a few stops to take in the view or catch your breath, it’s very manageable. The effort is well worth it — the views from the top are stunning.

Parking:
The carpark is unsealed with some large potholes and puddles, so take care driving in — especially after wet weather. That said, there was plenty of space when we arrived.

We were also greeted by beautiful bush surroundings and birdlife. The wind picked up while we were at the top, and the sound of the trees cracking in the breeze was eerie but incredible — something I’ve never experienced before.

Overall, a wonderful short hike that’s well worth the trip. A great way to start the morning!"

"We started this hike from the carpark at Lions Head Rd & did the rather challenging hike up to Camel’s Hump before coming back down & checking out Sanatorium Lake. Total was about 7km! But you can definitely just hike up from the nearest carpark to Camels Hump which would take a much shorter duration.

The hike is definitely extremely muddy in certain areas so practice caution. And a section was blocked off due to the rain so we had to take a rather long detour. Despite all of that, we very much still enjoyed the hike!"
