Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the SteamRanger Heritage Railway for its unique vintage train experience and the incredible effort of its volunteers. The scenic routes through the Adelaide Hills and towards the coast are a major highlight, offering a relaxing escape. While the journey is generally well-paced, some may find it too short or long depending on their chosen route.

"I like trains so probably biased review. Not to short and not to long. Windows still open so a Window seat is awesome. First time in years my teenager hasn't been glued to a phone. Great places to each lunch at either end and wonderful volunteers running the service. Big congratulations to them. Highly recommend and a great way to spend a morning or day."

David Petersen

"A wonderful experience and tremendous effort by the team to keep these old steam locomotives (built 110 years ago) running for others to enjoy. BYO snacks & drinks if you get hungry. But stops in Strathalbyn so you can grab something there."

"We’ve done this trip 2 years in a row for mums birthday as we really enjoy it. Catch the first train to Strath, send dad back on the first train home after enjoying some morning tea at the bakery and then mum and I go and explore the Strath Antique Fair before catching the second train back to Mount Barker. It’s a perfect day with the option of 45 minutes in Strath or 5 hours. The Steam Ranger only runs in the cooler months so it’s well worth a winter/spring trip!"
