What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Steyne Hotel boasts an unbeatable beachfront location in Manly with a historic charm and a lively atmosphere, particularly its rooftop bar. While many praise the views and convenient access, some diners have experienced inconsistent food quality and service timing. The hotel's vibrant energy and iconic status make it a popular spot, though music choices have been a point of contention for some.
"This place is nicely set up. But I was disappointed with the service when it came to food. We ordered for 3 people and one only person got there meal, then we waited 25min or so for the other two meals before having to ask about its whereabouts. The stuff where not sure , had to check multiple times. Then the food came out my steak was cold and chips. I ask them to remake my meal as it must have been sitting for a while as it went cold. After 5min they bring it back I asked if it was a fresh cooked or the just heat up. The staff said yes new steak but as soon I tasted it seem like they put in microwave as I ordered medium steak it returned well done. Will never eat at this place again. Food was average for it price.
Best advice tell staff when ordering that the meals are to come together. Hopefully then the chef will plan it better."

"Came and met friends from Queensland. They stayed in the accommodation. Reasonable. Lovely lady helping on the front desk. We all great tasty meals No problem asking for extra cheese and getting it. Meals came together and we had a great night.
The Steyne is a great venue. Had a great view to the rolling surf and stormy weather
You would think it would be packed but not really for a Saturday night. My thought is the background doof doof musac. Find something more enjoyable for everyone and you might actually find people would stay longer with an extra drink and spend more.
We asked. Told its a DJ. Well Im sorry there is needed improvement
We had been to the Opera Bar at lunch time. They had the vibe right. Come on Steyne.Love visiting but you can do better. Maybe ask some guests. Get some feedback and see where you can take the summer vibes."

"So sad to see what happened to this place. I used to come here every Sunday 10 years ago. We came all the way from Coogee to enjoy this spot. We drank jugs and even watched The Beautiful Girls play. Now it’s playing boring electronic music (and I love electronic, but this is awful — the DJ was yawning!).
There used to be a bench on the veranda, but now there are just some tables with intentionally inclined edges so you can’t put a drink near the view.
From an architectural point of view, they have created a fancy place but a completely soulless one. I’m sad. Where’s the Australian vibe? Where are the jugs? Where’s the good music? You’ve murdered a place."

Dining Experiences: Hits and Misses
However, traveler reviews indicate that the dining experience can be inconsistent. Some guests have reported issues with food quality, such as cold meals or overcooked dishes, and significant delays in service, with meals for a table arriving at staggered times. This has led to disappointment for some, especially given the price point.
To maximize your dining experience, it's advisable to communicate clearly with staff when ordering, especially regarding meal timing for groups. Checking the latest menu and considering the hotel's busy periods can also help manage expectations. Despite these potential drawbacks, many still find the overall atmosphere and location to be a significant draw.
The Steyne's Vibrant Atmosphere
The hotel also hosts various events, including live music and sports viewings like UFC, contributing to its dynamic environment. The rooftop bar, in particular, is a popular spot for soaking up the sun and enjoying the sea breeze, often accompanied by music and a vibrant crowd. This makes it a go-to destination for those looking for a quintessential Australian beach pub experience.
While the lively atmosphere is a major draw, some reviews suggest that the music choice, particularly electronic music, might not appeal to everyone and can detract from a more relaxed vibe. However, for many, the combination of the beach, the drinks, and the social energy makes The Steyne a beloved spot.
