What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Lake Cressbrook's serene atmosphere, abundant wildlife, and well-maintained campsites, calling it a 'slice of paradise' and a 'magical' escape. The lack of phone signal is seen as a major plus for a true digital detox. However, some find the parking situation for tent campers inconvenient, and the caravan/camper trailer sites less appealing.
"If there were more stars to give, Lake Cressbrook tent campground would get them all. One of the best camping spots close to Brisbane in my opinion for camping with a tent.
Quiet and peaceful with Koalas, kangaroos and sugar gliders around the campground. It is an honesty box system so rarely fills up as you can’t book sites.
Flat, grassy, shaded campsites with a great fire pit and new cooking plates are a really good addition. Bring your own firewood (plenty of people nearby sell bags of wood).
There are hot showers and flush toilets in the amenities block to keep everyone happy. Love this place, it really is a slice of paradise. We will be back!
The caravan/camper trailer section does t look as good with not much flat ground and little privacy. The only bad thing is in the tent camping area you can’t park close to your site so car awnings/trailers etc can’t be used. Enjoy!"

"Magical, peaceful, just ahhhhhhhhhh. The camping ground offers generous, thoughtfully placed tent sites, among occasional gum trees with or without BBQ fire places, which are regularly mowed & debris free (no rocks, sticks or leaves to clear away). The site surrounds Lake Cressbrook on huge sloping grassy meadows with wildflowers, mushrooms, kangaroos, koalas, possums, lizards, magpies, parrots, kookaburras & other native birds. There is a large camp kitchen area with picnic tables, a kitchen sink, stove & power. The amenities building is excellent with lights, power, hot water showers & wheelchair access. There is one designated wheelchair accessible tent space. Every day the Lake is stunning, so the morning view is worth every second. The quiet is pristine & peacefilled due to the lack of electromagnetic radiation; there is no internet or mobile phone access, so sleep or read in blissful peace. Fishing but not swimming, is permitted, the boat ramp is often busy."

"Lake Cressbrook (56.2 km) via New England Hwy/A3 from Toowoomba
Makes for a great day out with plenty of parking, seating areas for BBQs, and even a camping ground for $20 per night.
(The replacement of all BBQs will take place in June 2024)."

Camping at Lake Cressbrook: A Nature Lover's Dream
However, a key consideration for tent campers is the parking situation. You cannot park your vehicle directly at your tent site, which means car awnings and trailers are not practical. This setup prioritizes the natural aesthetic and space for tents. For those with caravans or camper trailers, the designated area might be less appealing due to less flat ground and privacy. The entire experience is enhanced by the lack of mobile reception and Wi-Fi, encouraging a true digital detox and immersion in the peaceful surroundings.
The campground operates on an honesty box system, meaning sites are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. This often results in a quiet and uncrowded atmosphere, especially during weekdays. The $20 per night fee is a small price for such a serene escape, making it a highly recommended spot for those seeking tranquility and a close encounter with nature.
