Reviews Summary
Yellow Water Cruises are overwhelmingly praised as a must-do Kakadu experience, with visitors highlighting the incredible wildlife sightings, especially crocodiles and diverse birdlife, and the stunning natural beauty of the wetlands. The knowledgeable guides and the magical atmosphere of sunrise and sunset cruises are frequently mentioned as highlights. Some find the standard cruise duration a bit short, but overall, the experience is highly recommended.
"South Alligator River by Boat
Exploring the South Alligator River by boat was an unforgettable adventure. The scenery was breathtaking — from tall pandanus trees to the calm reflections on the water. Early in the trip we drifted past a jabiru wading at the river’s edge, and later spotted an eagle perched high in the treetops, keeping watch over the wetlands. The water itself came alive with pink lotus flowers, their reflections glowing in the late afternoon light.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the South Alligator without crocodiles. Seeing a massive saltie slide silently through the lilies reminded us of just how wild and powerful this place really is. It was thrilling to witness from the safety of the boat.
Fishing here was another highlight. Casting lines at sunrise and sunset, we caught some impressive barramundi — each catch was met with cheers, laughs, and quick photos before moving on to the next spot. The excitement of reeling in such iconic fish, against the backdrop of a Kakadu sky, made the experience even more special.
This trip had it all: Crocs, water buffalo, Jabiru, eagles, magpies geese, Barramundis, stunning landscapes, and the pure joy of being out on the river. A must-do for anyone visiting Kakadu."

"Sunset cruise - very organized, no waiting just straight on the bus, a short drive from
Cooinda Lodge and onto the boat.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we saw plenty of crocodiles, birds and buffalo! Enjoyable but a bit too long for us - I think 60-90 mins would be perfect!
Highly Recommend."

We saw a gazillion birds, crocs, fish, Buffalo, boar, crocs eating thing.... It was absolutely incredible.

A wide-angle lens can be useful for capturing the vastness of the wetlands and the expansive skies. Remember to bring extra batteries and memory cards, as you'll likely be taking a lot of photos. It's also wise to protect your gear from the elements, as humidity and potential splashes can occur.
When photographing wildlife, always be respectful. Avoid using flash directly at animals, as it can startle or disturb them. Listen to your guide's advice; they can often position the boat for optimal viewing and photographic opportunities. The reflections on the water, the vibrant pink lotus flowers, and the silhouettes of pandanus trees also make for excellent photographic subjects, especially during the golden hours.
