"Yes I went here yesterday and I was looking for Cygnets for I could not find any on lake Illawara and I met a fishers Officer yesterday and he told me where to find them and he was right and when I arrived there was a council worker from Kiama and he told me where to find them ! And I got lost 😂 lol I loved 🥰 the drive in to the Dam 🦫 and I will have to take my wife next time and she loves the old houses ! And I was wondering where that road leads from for I was driving the other way when I was driving just before Lockdown to Kiama Downs and they have a good Bakery at Kiama Downs big Cream Buns and great pies and cakes and coffee if you love ❤️ these things and I just found out we could have seen the Cygnets at Haywards bay !"

"Nice place for a walk in nature, but you won’t get very close to the dam. The weeds and grass are above my head down near the dam now. But if you’re looking for a nice easy walk in the country side than it’s very nice :)"

"Agree its not 'spectacular', but still worth the short drive from Kiama and a very peacefull escape to country. Take the kids and the dog."

Exploring the Natural Beauty
The drive into the dam area itself is noted as being particularly pleasant, adding to the overall scenic experience. However, visitors should be aware that access to the dam is now restricted, requiring a walk from the external parking area. Some sections, especially closer to the dam, can have overgrown vegetation, so wearing appropriate footwear is advised.
Despite not being described as 'spectacular' by some, the peaceful atmosphere and countryside charm make Jerrara Wetlands a worthwhile visit for those seeking a quiet retreat. It's a place where you can reconnect with nature and enjoy a relaxed pace.
Visitor Experience and Access
This change means that while the drive to the wetlands is enjoyable, the final approach to the dam requires a bit more effort. Some reviews mention that weeds and grass can be quite tall near the dam, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Despite these access adjustments, the overall sentiment remains positive, with many appreciating the peaceful nature of the location.
For those planning a visit, it's helpful to know that a single drop toilet is available on-site. The experience is best enjoyed with a sense of adventure and an appreciation for natural, less-manicured landscapes.
