The costumed staff and attention to detail are frequently highlighted as positives. "Been a long time since I have visited Sovereign Hill. It was amazing it. Top tip would be to plan day according to the demonstrations. So much to see and do. Such a wonderful experience can’t recommend it enough. Day trips work well and the employees are such a knowledgeable and interesting group. Especially if you haven’t been for 25+ years and the last time was on a school trip, you’ll love it!!"

"Very well designed historical living mining village /town. We really enjoyed it and it suited older primary upwards for kids with lots to do. Staff very helpful, dressed in costume. We found the bottom of the village to be all fairly ignorant of history hard sell shops with disinterested staff when they realised you weren't buying. However, the staff in the mine and more engineering areas were very very good and very knowledgeable when pushed hard with questions. We had a pleasant afternoon. The town is also worth a wonder around."

"We had a great day out at Sovereign Hill with the kids – such a fun and engaging experience for the whole family! The highlight was definitely the gold panning – the kids loved getting their hands dirty and searching for real gold (and yes, we did find a few tiny specks!). The old-fashioned confectionery store was also a big hit – everything looked and tasted amazing.
If you're debating whether or not to bring a pram, I’d recommend leaving it behind if possible – the terrain is quite hilly and uneven, and not ideal for strollers. I did notice a few available for hire on site, which might be a better option for younger kids.
The Wizard show was just okay – the kids enjoyed parts of it, but it wasn’t as impressive as other parts of the experience. On the other hand, the playground area and the overall environment were fantastic. The attention to detail in the historical setup is really impressive, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our visit.
A great place to step back in time and make some fun memories with the family."
