What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Giants Cave is lauded as a thrilling, authentic adventure, offering a unique self-guided experience that's more challenging than typical caves. Visitors love the physical engagement and the profound silence in the dark, though some note it's not for the unfit or those with mobility issues.
"Giants Cave is an amazing adventure! The cave is not lit, but helmets with headlamps are included in the entry fee (we got 3 plus a spare torch). The cave takes you deep underground with ladders, steps, and climbs, before exiting on the other side. The return is a pleasant bushwalk, crossing Caves Road once. It felt very genuine and adventurous, and our 8-year-old loved every minute. A fun, active hour exploring – highly recommended!"

"Self guided adventure into this cave. This cave is not for the unfit.
Several section where you climb uphill with aid of a rope and one section aprox 10/14 metres down a slope using a rope to assist.
Aprox 60/80 min to walk this cave.
Was lots of fun. You’re given a helmet ( a few low points) and one of the group is give a spare hand held touch as backup.
Stunning to turn your lights off and just absorb the silence in several sections.
This cave felt safe to walk, it just isn’t suited for people with restricted mobility. You need to be able to scramble over and up boulders.
Not the place for backpacks due to the narrow section.
Remember to pee before you go.
Live life and enjoy the adventure. Not as many stalagmites and tights as nearby caves but still very pretty."

"It is probably the most challenging of the accessible caves in the area. It is also the deepest cave at 85m underground, it's a self guided tour the the 585m long cave, you have to wear a hard hat and lamp as you will be climbing through some small space. You need a pretty reasonable level of fitness for this one. I highly recommend it, though, as it's a very different experience to the other caves. It's a lot less crowded as not as many people visit."

This approach fosters a sense of personal discovery and excitement. The absence of a guide means you're fully immersed in the natural environment, relying on your own senses and the provided equipment.

Fitness and Safety Considerations
Safety is paramount, and while the cave is self-guided, the path is generally clear. However, the challenging nature means it's not suitable for individuals with mobility issues, a fear of heights, or claustrophobia. The review mentioning being 'scared of ladders' but glad they did it, underscores that it can push personal boundaries, but the reward is significant. It's also recommended to use the restroom before entering, as there are no facilities within the cave, and to avoid bringing large backpacks due to the narrow passages.
Turning off your headlamp in certain sections is a popular tip for experiencing the cave's profound silence and darkness. This moment of sensory deprivation is often cited as a highlight, offering a unique and memorable part of the adventure.
