What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Manton Dam Recreation Area is a popular spot for water sports and a pleasant escape from Darwin. Visitors appreciate the scenic beauty and the opportunities for fishing and picnicking. However, some note that signage could be improved and that it's primarily geared towards water sports enthusiasts, with limited access for enjoying the dam's serenity for non-boaters.
"Pleasant stop to stretch legs and have lunch. Sam is full of bird life and there are bathrooms and BBQ areas. Sad to read an aboriginal creation site was flooded to make the area. The dam seems slightly redundant as Darwin’s water supply is sourced elsewhere.
Imagine gets busy during weekends with jet ski / boating enthusiasts."
Alice Kimberley
"Diverted off the main highway to have a look (not too far off the main drag,) and was not disappointed. These out if the way places need lots of maintenance and it is obviously popular with the Darwin boating fraternity.
Would have benefitted from better signage and access to the water, because other than the boardwalk to the toilets and the boat ramp there was not much of a chance to enjoy the serenity of the dam.
Worth the diversion just for a quick look, or a kayak trip if you have one on the roof racks."
