What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Dandenong Station is recognized as a major, well-connected transport hub with significantly improved modern facilities and accessibility. While praised for its efficiency and connectivity, some travelers express concerns about safety and loitering, particularly during off-peak hours. The surrounding area is celebrated for its vibrant multicultural dining scene.
"Dandenong Train Station is one of the largest and busiest stations in Melbourne’s southeast, serving as a major hub for both metropolitan and V/Line services. It connects commuters not only to the city but also to key regional areas, with buses and taxis available right outside the station for added convenience. The station itself has undergone significant upgrades in recent years, with improved lighting, modern facilities, clear signage, and much better accessibility for people with prams, luggage, or mobility needs. The platforms are spacious, and trains are generally frequent, making it a reliable option for daily commuting or longer regional trips.
Despite these improvements, the station can get extremely busy during peak hours, which sometimes makes boarding or moving through the concourse a little hectic. Parking is available but limited, and it can be difficult to find a spot during the day. While the inside of the station feels modern and functional, the surrounding area is not always as inviting—some commuters have noted that it can feel unsafe, especially late at night, and there is a noticeable presence of loitering around the entrance at times.
Overall, Dandenong Train Station plays an essential role in Melbourne’s transport network, offering strong connectivity and much-improved facilities compared to the past. The station itself is efficient and commuter-friendly."

"Very rude behaviour of security at the dandenong station. When i asked for assistance when my myki card didn't work he questioned my English speaking skills and didn't provide proper guidance and just tapped on with his card and said " just go" . This behaviour must be addressed. This happened around 12.50 pm at the upstairs section when I arrived to dandenong station from cranbourne."

"Dandenong Station is a essential interchange in Melbourne’s southeast, serving both Pakenham and Cranbourne Metropolitan lines as well as regional V/Line services. Its role as a junction makes it a high-traffic hub, and the frequency of services is generally reliable. In the suburb of Dandenong, there are a few great restaurants along the Princes Highway including the Darbar Restaurant nearby. It also serves a great trainspotting place for train enthusiasts who want to capture trains and buses. While the infrastructure and the train station that serves as an interchange between Trains and buses are good, it is one of the stations with very high crime rates. There are lots of loitering and upkeep, especially during off-peak hours. I have experienced people wearing black and acting very suspicious on my way to Pakenham on a train. Dandenong has one of the highest crime rates in Victoria, with a report showing nearly 7000, including over 2000 thefts, almost 800 assaults, and at least 400 burglaries. For now, I'd rate it 1/5. Dandenong has great infrastructure and surroundings and an above-average trainspotting location, but it really needs to improve its safety as commuters would likely experience uncomfortable situations. I would advise not to go to Dandenong on public transport unless if you really have to. This is my perspective and I understand if others see things differently."
