I booked a trial shooting experience for my father (70+) and myself after confirming with a staff member over the phone that it would be fine for him to participate, even though English is not his first language. She assured me that I could translate for him if needed, and only after that confirmation did I proceed with the booking.
The induction was handled well, and the initial staff were friendly and accommodating. However, once we reached the shooting range, the experience took a sharp turn for the worse.
While I was shooting, my father came close to take a photo—something I saw another participant’s family member do without issue. Yet, my father was rudely told to go back to the benches. The inconsistency in treatment was glaring and felt discriminatory.
When it was my father's turn, I explained again that I would translate for him. The range officer responded with visible frustration, making exaggerated faces and comments like “this is so tough.” Another staff member joined in later and the ranger was loudly complaining about how difficult it was, even though he hadn’t made any real effort to communicate or accommodate. It was unprofessional, intimidating, and frankly, disrespectful—especially toward an elderly man who was fully cooperative and polite throughout.
To make matters worse, we paid for 50 shots, but my father was only allowed to shoot 47. The ranger was joking with other range officers about wanting to resign because it was “so tough,” which felt incredibly inappropriate given the situation. When I mentioned I had confirmed everything with Cynthia over the phone before booking, he dismissed it and sarcastically said his name was “Mick,” if I want to give a google review which another staff member later corrected to “Bruce.”
On top of all this, the pistol jammed at least 15 times, and one even had to be replaced mid-session.
This was meant to be a special Father’s Day outing, and I deeply regret choosing this place. If the centre cannot accommodate non-native English speakers or older participants, they should be upfront about it. But if they do accept bookings, they must treat all customers with professionalism and respect.
I urge management to retrain staff on respectful communication and inclusivity, and ensure that all customers—regardless of age or language background—are treated with dignity. Experiences like this not only ruin special occasions but reflect poorly on the entire organisation."
