What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Thistle Cove is lauded for its breathtaking white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and unique granite formations like Whistling Rock. Visitors appreciate its tranquility compared to busier nearby beaches. However, the presence of flies during warmer months and the slightly challenging access for very young children are noted drawbacks.
"Thistle Cove in Cape Le Grand National Park is a stunning spot with white sand, clear turquoise water, and unique granite formations. It’s a great place to relax, take photos, and enjoy the beauty of Western Australia’s coast.
I loved exploring Whistle Rock, a boulder that makes a whistling sound when the wind passes through. The rock area was fun to walk around, and having lunch there was a highlight. A nice picnic table nearby made it the perfect place to sit and enjoy the view.
If you’re in the area, Thistle Cove is definitely worth a visit!"

"Jawdroppingly stunning white sand and all shades of blue sea. Very quiet compared to Lucky Bay and Hellfire Beach.
We visited the first time in March 2021 and vowed to come back to Cape Le Grande one day, so today was the day. The beaches are still stunning, no photo can do them justice.
Only issue today were the flies, several buzzing around and on at all times, despite having aerogard on.
If you’re coming, try to get here after summer. March was absolutely perfect (no flies) and the water temperature was also not quite as much of a shock to the system."

"Thistle Cove is just below the Whistling Rock via the beach access. To access the beach its a short walk down a track, then a small amount of walking on the rock. We took our 2 x small kids 2 & 3, but didn't take our eyes off them as there are open edges, trips, slips and falls, we also had to carry them part way down the rock to get onto the sand. But when you do make it onto the sand it is amazing, beautiful soft white sand, crystal clear water its quite amazing. Other benefits or cons depending how you see it, there is no access for 4wd to enter the beach, and its also a lot quieter and less people than say Lucky Bay. Thoroughly enjoyed this Cove."

The Magic of Whistling Rock
The sound is most pronounced when there's a steady breeze, so be sure to listen closely when you visit. It's a natural wonder that truly sets Thistle Cove apart.
Beach Access and Experience
The beach itself is a marvel of nature, boasting incredibly soft, powdery white sand that feels delightful underfoot. The water is consistently described as crystal clear and a mesmerizing shade of turquoise, inviting visitors for a refreshing swim. However, it's important to note that the water temperature can be quite cool, even in warmer months.
Families with very young children should exercise caution due to the open edges and potential for slips on the rockier sections leading to the sand. Some visitors opt to carry their little ones part of the way down to ensure their safety.
