The surrounding coastal walk is also a highlight, offering beautiful scenery and the chance to experience nature's raw power.
"This is a cool spot. You have to crawl through the tunnel or you can walk in a squat if you're not too tall! Views are worth it. Be careful and safe!"

"Spectacular family-friendly walk. Paths were very well maintained with plenty of options for side adventures. You’ve got to walk (and hopefully talk) like Gollum to get through the smallest part of the tunnel, but should be achievable for most. Incredible view of the cliffs once you pop out the far side of the tunnel."
Caleb Hogbin
"Visited this tunnel as part of the walk to Mermaid’s Inlet. Rated the difficulty as moderate only due to the tunnel access. The trail to it is easy and flat but once at the opening of the tunnel there are a few rocks to scramble over and if you’re very tall it may be a bit trickier for you to crawl through. Otherwise myself and two kids aged 10 and 12 got through without out any hassle. The views on the other side were breathtaking! You could possibly walk along the cliff to the other side but we returned the way we entered."

The Unique Experience of Gosangs Tunnel
The journey through the tunnel is often described as a rite of passage for visitors. While it might seem daunting, most people, including families with children, find it manageable. The effort is immediately repaid upon emerging into the breathtaking expanse of Mermaid Inlet. The contrast between the dark, confined tunnel and the wide-open, stunning coastal views is a powerful sensory experience.
Beyond the tunnel itself, the surrounding area offers a beautiful coastal bushwalk. The path from Abrahams Bosom Reserve is well-maintained and provides a pleasant prelude to the main attraction. Visitors can also keep an eye out for marine life, as the area is known for whale sightings during migration seasons. This combination of physical activity, natural wonder, and potential wildlife encounters makes Gosangs Tunnel a memorable destination.
Navigating the Tunnel and Coastal Safety
Ocean conditions play a significant role in the Gosangs Tunnel experience. When the surf is high, the air pressure changes within the tunnel can create eerie, 'ghost train'-like screaming sounds as air is forced through narrow gaps. While this can be a unique auditory experience, it also indicates stronger water movement. Conversely, during calmer seas, the passage is safer and the views of Mermaid Inlet are clearer. It's always advisable to check local surf reports and tide times before your visit to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience.
Safety is paramount. Be mindful of where you place your hands and feet, especially when crawling. Avoid carrying too much gear, as it can hinder your movement. If you're visiting with children, ensure they are comfortable with enclosed spaces and can navigate the tunnel safely with supervision. The beauty of Gosangs Tunnel lies in its natural, untamed environment, so respecting its power and proceeding with awareness is key.
