"First of all, I want to make a special mention of the Administration team. They work Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. I went today, and I can assure you that as soon as they saw me, they got up between two to come and see me. Honestly, service has improved a lot in the municipality, and I'm glad it's that way. So, go with confidence and good vibes, and you'll get all the information you need.
I'm attaching various photos I took today at the Avellaneda Cemetery. While I agree with the general opinion that the place is quite clean, albeit neglected by overgrown vegetation, I have to make a caveat that the vast majority of "opinion-makers" ignore.
EVERYTHING, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING that the cemetery has to do to a mausoleum, niche, or tomb REQUIRES WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE FAMILY OF THE DECEASED. And if we consider that (most of us reading this comment) haven't visited the cemetery in at least two years, it's pretty complicated to do anything, right? Keeping it in order. So, if you don't like seeing broken tombstones, graffitied mausoleums, and niches in poor condition, get together with your family to TAKE CARE OF the space where you left your loved one, or from the wake room to the crematorium, and that's it! Scatter the ashes wherever you want!
Enough with the opinion-makers and experts in cemetery maintenance. The Avellaneda cemetery is super clean of trash, there are people working and cleaning every day, and there's private security day and night. The municipal cemetery belongs to everyone, and you're also responsible for its care and maintenance."

Understanding Cemetery Maintenance and Family Responsibility
This policy means that the perceived neglect in certain areas, such as broken or graffitied tombstones and poorly maintained niches, is often a reflection of family inaction rather than a complete lack of municipal effort. Visitors are encouraged to consider coordinating with their own families for the upkeep of their loved ones' resting places or to explore alternatives like cremation if maintaining a physical plot becomes too challenging.
Despite these challenges, many visitors note that the cemetery is generally kept clean of trash, with daily cleaning staff and private security present day and night. The sentiment is that the municipal cemetery is a shared space, and its care is a collective responsibility.
The Cultural Significance of Remembrance
The cemetery's design, with its tree-shaded paths and grand mausoleums, contributes to a serene and contemplative atmosphere. It's a place where visitors can reflect on life and legacy. The ornate architecture of the mausoleums themselves tells stories of families and their histories, making a walk through the grounds a journey through time.
However, it's also important to be aware that some areas, particularly towards the back, can appear quite somber and even unsettling, with reports of abandoned sections and exposed remains. This contrast between the well-maintained areas and the more neglected ones can be striking and is part of the complex reality of such a large, historic burial ground.
