What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ushuaia Cruise Port is praised for its convenient location near the city center, offering easy access to shops and restaurants, and serving as a vital hub for Antarctic expeditions. However, the significant walk from the port gate to the ships and occasional logistical challenges during boarding are frequently cited as drawbacks.
"The port is nice but from the gate to the ships is a LONG walk and there is no transportation available, other than that it is great. Very close to the city center full of restaurants, hotels and shopping."
David Harris
"Close to restaurants and shops. Plenty of tour agencies at the terminal. I will give them a bad score for on loading cruise ships. We were made to stage our luggage a kilometer away in a convention center, and bus to the ship. The traffic in the entire city center was disrupted. What a nightmare. If Ushuaia is to continue to grow as a cruise ship Mecca, it must fix this problem."
Paul
"This port is the starting point for .any great Antartica adventures. Free wifi. Plenty of stores and restaurants. ADA compliant, but there is a lot of rainy weather. Relatively safe, but caution is always good."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Be prepared for the long walk to the ship, which might be challenging with very young children or strollers. Pack snacks and drinks, as options might be limited during the boarding process. Embarking on Antarctic Adventures
While the port itself is functional, the logistics of boarding can sometimes be challenging. Reviews mention a significant walk from the port gate to the ships, and in some cases, luggage is staged at a convention center before a bus transfer to the vessel. This can cause disruptions and is an area for potential improvement as Ushuaia aims to grow its cruise tourism. Despite these logistical points, the thrill of departing for Antarctica from the 'End of the World' is an unforgettable experience for many.
For those not embarking on an Antarctic voyage, the port serves as a point of arrival and departure for various regional cruises, including those exploring the Beagle Channel and nearby islands. The port's location offers immediate access to Ushuaia's attractions, making it a convenient starting point for exploring the town and its surroundings.
Ushuaia Port Logistics and City Access
However, a recurring point of feedback concerns the walk from the port's main gate to the actual cruise ships. This distance can be substantial, and the lack of on-site transportation is a common complaint. Travelers are advised to pack light or be prepared for a considerable trek, especially if carrying luggage. This aspect of the port experience is frequently mentioned as a drawback that could be improved to enhance passenger comfort.
Despite the walking distance to the ships, the overall experience at the port is generally positive due to its integration with the city. The presence of numerous tour agencies directly at the terminal is also a plus, facilitating easy booking of local excursions and activities. The port also offers free Wi-Fi, a welcome amenity for staying connected.
