Reviews Summary
Cerro Castor offers a unique skiing experience at the world's southernmost resort with beautiful views and varied terrain. However, visitors frequently mention slow lift operations and long queues for tickets, alongside concerns about slope closures for training impacting the value of multi-day passes.
"Do not get the multi-day pass here. I bought for 3 days because it was a few pesos cheaper and wanted to avoid the line. But on 3rd day it got windy and most lifts shut down, with a super long line on the one lift that was working to get up from the parking lot. Also, feeling a bit sick and asked them to move my 3rd day to the next day so I could go back to hotel and rest. But they refused 😞
Worse, is the slow pace and long lines just to buy tickets. Some people were standing at a window for 15 minutes or longer while eveyone just waited and waited. On my 4th day I waited an hour in line before finally giving up and going back to my hotel 😓
Otherwise, skiing is good if conditions are right. Fun to ski at the southern-most ski resort in the world. I just wish the place was better managed."

"Beautiful ski resort with amazing views. But one star down for the incredible slow, old lifts. They are antiquities compared to the ones we have in Europe and North America.
Another star down because half of the slopes (and the best black ones) are closed for ski racer who don't even pay the full lift ticket. If it's just possible to ski half of the resort, lift tickets should be half price too."

"Very fine July skiing, very nice pistes (when you can can get to them as the ski team training often take up several of the best runs each day). Lifts are all old and slow but dependable. Very little waiting in lift lines"

Understanding Ski Passes and Value
This suggests that while the Cerro Castor skiing experience can be excellent, the value of a multi-day pass is heavily dependent on consistent weather. If you're concerned about unpredictable Patagonian conditions, purchasing single-day passes might offer more flexibility, albeit at a potentially higher per-day cost. Always check the weather forecast and lift status before committing to longer-term passes.
Navigating Resort Operations and Queues
Furthermore, the resort's management of slope access can be a point of contention. Some of the best black runs are reportedly closed for ski racer training, even when those racers may not be paying full lift ticket prices. This can lead to a feeling of limited access to the full resort experience, prompting questions about whether ticket prices should be adjusted accordingly. Visitors seeking the most efficient and comprehensive Cerro Castor skiing experience should be prepared for potential delays and check daily slope availability.
The Unique Appeal of Southernmost Skiing
Beyond its location, the Cerro Castor resort boasts beautiful scenery and generally good snow conditions, especially during the peak season. The mountain provides a range of runs suitable for various skill levels, making it accessible for families and individuals alike. While there are operational aspects that could be improved, the sheer novelty of skiing in such a remote and stunning part of the planet is a significant draw for many travelers.
