What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Cerro Leones Caves Park for its unique, dramatic landscape and historical industrial remnants. It's a highly recommended spot for photography and quiet contemplation, especially with a mate. However, the lack of security and the inherent dangers of an abandoned quarry are significant concerns, with litter also being an issue.
"You arrive through the main entrance and from there, leave your car on the road. You go through a gate and a few meters away you reach the quarry. It's a nice place to go for some mate at sunset or at midday. Afterwards, you can walk around the area, where you can see the remains of the machines and sheds, now destroyed by time."

"It's worth visiting! Personally, I loved the history of the place. It's super peaceful and attractive to explore, or just to stay and contemplate with some delicious mate! If you're driving, park along the road. There's a gate with a chain, but on the side, there's a pedestrian crossing. From there, it's about 200 meters to the quarry. EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL!"
Fernando Lagunas
"The place is beautiful, the usual natural beauty of the area is combined with these pots artificially created by the exploitation of the old quarry. Access is easy from the street, although I was told it is private, at least at this time (May 2025) there is no sign indicating it. Being a fall day I was surprised by the amount of people there were, I imagine in summer it must be much busier. It said that access is simple, but you have to be careful when approaching the edges of the artificially formed “cliff”, since they are all sharp rocks, very steep and very high (there is a sign that says it is 20 meters).
You can see the old quarry machinery and even the tracks that were used to transport the production.
An almost constant unpleasant detail; There was a lot of trash left by visitors, bottles, tetras and even diapers! A shame."

Consider bringing snacks and drinks for a short visit, as amenities are limited. The open space allows for some freedom, but the inherent dangers of the site mean it's best suited for families with older children who can understand and follow safety instructions diligently.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
For the best results, aim for the golden hour – late afternoon – when the light casts long shadows and bathes the landscape in a warm glow. The sharp edges and deep drops of the quarry can be captured to emphasize its dramatic nature. Remember to prioritize safety while seeking those perfect angles; the views are stunning, but the terrain can be treacherous.

The History and Landscape of Cerro Leones
Visitors often remark on the peaceful atmosphere of the place, despite its industrial origins. The remnants of old machinery and sheds, weathered by time, add a layer of historical intrigue. Many come here to enjoy a quiet moment, perhaps with a traditional Argentine mate, and to simply contemplate the unique landscape.
The combination of the natural sierras surrounding the quarry and the stark, man-made canyon creates a visually striking environment. It's a place that sparks imagination, inviting visitors to ponder the history and the forces that shaped it. The park is also noted for its photographic potential, with dramatic angles and textures.
Safety and Responsible Visiting
Many visitors highlight the importance of being aware of your surroundings. While the beauty of the site is undeniable, the lack of safety measures means that accidents can easily happen if one is not careful. This is particularly important for those with children or pets.
Responsible visiting also extends to respecting the environment. Unfortunately, some reviews mention finding trash left behind by visitors, such as bottles and diapers. It's vital for everyone to pack out what they pack in, helping to preserve the natural beauty of Cerro Leones for future visitors.
