Reviews Summary
Fort James Beach is praised for its soft sand, clear warm waters, and relaxed atmosphere, offering a pleasant experience for visitors, especially those arriving by cruise ship. While some areas may show overgrowth, the beach provides a beautiful setting with local bars and the option for horseback riding. Occasional helicopter noise is noted but generally not a major detractor.
"We walked to Fort James Beach from the cruise terminal at St John's, a walk of about 40 minutes. We arrived really early, just before 9, on a beautiful sunny day. The soft sand and the beautiful clear blue water was so inviting. The beach was really clean, no sign of litter, and there are bins by the shop and bars.
There are several small bars dotted along the beach plus a small shop or two selling fridge magnets, towels, tops and t-shirts. It is also possible to ride along the beach, weight permitting,on one of the horses that are available for guided rides from one of the small shops. The horses are well looked after, look well fed, and are walked into the sea to cool down after a ride.
We had cold drinks from one of the bars, a relaxed place for food or drinks. Everyone was so friendly. We thought $10 for a sunbed was a bit pricey, so we opted for laying our towels on the sand. The sea was beautifully clear, crisp blue and really warm. Lovely.
There's a helicopter port nearby so occasionally a helicopter or two fly in and iyt, but they certainly didn't detract from our visit. We stayed until lunchtime before heading back via taxi ($15, of which there are plenty dropping people off throughout the morning, so we didn't book one, we just grabbed an available one) to the cruise terminal and port, about five minutes.

"I enjoyed Fort James Beach. All the beaches in Antigua are beautiful really, but if you enjoy slightly stronger waves, this the beach for you.
It was pretty quiet when we went as well so was like being on a private beach ☺️"

"A private feeling local beach about an hour’s walk from port. Lots of trash and overgrown with vines and bushes in places but in the right spots it feels like you’re all alone on a gorgeous beach. The walk takes you through some rougher areas although we never felt unsafe at all."
