What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Via Ferrata Roc de la Coma d'Erts for its entertaining and varied K2 route, with an optional challenging K3 variant. The well-maintained equipment and scenic views are highlights, though some beginners find certain sections psychologically demanding. The steep approach and descent require good footwear, and gear rental is available nearby.
"It takes around 2 hours in total to complete this beautiful route. There is a little hike up to the place where you begin ascending, which is a bit steep in some parts.
In our experience there are some smaller hard places on the route. It may be beginner friendly, but you still need to have some extra time if you havent tried doing things like this before. Some parts are a bit scary if you are not totally secure on your feet.
The whole route is a loop, where you go down a hiking trail (yellow) after ascending, one that parts from the trail when the ascending begins.
If you dont have gear it can be rented at skimium - esports sensacio in Messana for 10 euros, but beware of the closing times. Theres no cheaper options for if you already own any gear.
There are also some mountain climbing routes here.

"Easy via ferrata (k2) very diverse and entertaining, even for those with a higher level, especially if we take the fork of the difficult section (I consider it k3). In fact, the K2 section seems to me to have some psychological steps because you have to rely on your foot on rock, or on your foot on a round cleat and hands on rock. The second section K3 has a drop of about 5 life cable changes and chains and horizontal steps equipped with grace to feel the rock predominate.
Access 10' and return 30' by a well-marked steep path. In total we spent two hours.
Equipment in good condition (08/2025).
Cool view of the town and the mountains.

"K2 graded via ferrata with some steps that can be more difficult as it requires relying on using the stone with hands or feet.
Everything is very simple until the fork. We did the difficult variant which makes it longer, a little more physically demanding and increases the frequency with which you have to rely on the stone since there are not always staples.
Equipment in good condition, we did not find any stone areas with a risk of falling stones.
Easy to follow, very steep climb, wear good shoes.
- Time: 2h if you do not stop much
- Views and surroundings: town, road and nearby mountains
- Water points: no"

Navigating the Via Ferrata
For those looking for an extra thrill, a fork in the path presents a more difficult variant, considered K3. This section involves longer drops, more frequent use of chains and horizontal steps, and a greater reliance on using the rock itself for holds. It's a great way to test your skills and enjoy a more physically demanding climb. The entire loop, including the descent, is designed to be completed in approximately two hours, making it an excellent half-day adventure.
Safety and equipment are paramount. Ensure you have a properly fitted harness, a via ferrata set with an energy absorber, and a helmet. Gloves are also highly recommended to protect your hands. The equipment at the rental shop in Messana was reported to be in good condition as of August 2025.
Beginner's Perspective
Reviewers mention that the route is generally easy to follow, with a well-marked steep path for the approach and return. The descent is also a hiking trail, taking about 30 minutes. It's crucial to wear good shoes for this part, as it can be steep. If you're new to this, consider going with someone experienced or taking a guided tour if available. The overall consensus is that it's a fun and entertaining route that offers great value for the time invested.
The Return Journey
The return hike typically takes around 30 minutes, bringing you back towards the starting area. While the via ferrata itself offers the adrenaline rush, the hike back provides a chance to appreciate the surrounding landscape and reflect on the climb. There are no water points along the route, so ensure you carry enough hydration for the entire 2-hour excursion.
