"Beautiful place and very interesting museum full of well-preserved Roman objects!"

Assia Khench

"Very beautiful place and well preserved. Known as Djemila and small Pompeii. The site is quite impressive and it's maintained by the state. Entrance is 100dz for the ruins and 80dz for the museum where you will find some big mosaics, tools etc used by the old Roman empire. Take your time to visit and look around. Outside the ruin it's a small village where you can find some drink refreshment or any kind of food. There are some souvenir shop and they are cheap."

Rachid M (Qala Hamra)

"Huge, amazingly HUGE ancient Roman city, beautiful site, very well preserved!!! It includes houses, temples, columns, arches, streets, an amphitheater and lots, lots more... It was fabulous! I definitely recommend everyone to visit!!!"

The History of Cuicul (Djemila)

Djemila, originally known as Cuicul, was founded as a Roman colony during the reign of Emperor Nerva in the late 1st century AD. Its strategic location in the mountains of northeastern Algeria allowed the Romans to control the region and its resources. The city flourished, becoming a significant administrative and economic center. Its unique adaptation of Roman architecture to the mountainous terrain is a key reason for its UNESCO World Heritage status. TikTok+2

The city's layout reflects typical Roman urban planning, with a forum, temples, basilicas, a theater, and residential areas. The exceptionally well-preserved ruins offer a vivid picture of daily life, social structures, and architectural achievements of the Roman Empire in North Africa. The city's prosperity is evident in the quality of its public buildings and private residences, many of which feature intricate mosaics. TikTok+1

After the decline of the Roman Empire, Cuicul gradually fell into disuse, eventually becoming the archaeological site we see today. Its remote location and the dry climate have contributed to its remarkable state of preservation, making it one of the most important Roman sites in North Africa. TikTok+1
