Breakfast was excellent- very tasty and fresh."

"Absolutely recommend this place. It is located in the UNESCO quarter. We booked our stay just two hours before check-in because our original hotel turned out to be too far from the city center and we had to cancel. The lady who checked us in was lovely. The room was cozy with a stunning view. Breakfast was tasty and filling. I would 10000% come back."

Liv B.

"Lovely owners, delicious breakfast. The advert was a little deceiving when it said view of mountains and lake - due to the shape of the building, we could see only the roof! Otherwise, great stay, really central location in Berat and I would stay again."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Exploring the Gorica Quarter's Architecture

The Gorica Quarter is a testament to traditional Ottoman architecture, characterized by its distinctive white houses with stone foundations and wooden accents. These homes are built closely together, lining narrow, winding cobblestone streets that invite exploration. Many of these structures have been beautifully preserved or restored, offering a glimpse into centuries of history. The quarter's layout reflects a harmonious integration with the natural landscape, clinging to the hillside across the Osum River from the more famous Mangalem quarter. TikTokInstagram

Visitors often remark on the peaceful and authentic atmosphere of Gorica, which feels less commercialized than its counterpart. The houses themselves are a visual delight, with their characteristic windows and overhanging upper floors. Some have been converted into charming guesthouses and boutique hotels, allowing visitors to stay within a piece of living history. The careful rehabilitation efforts, supported by initiatives like those from the EU, aim to balance preservation with modern accessibility, ensuring the quarter's heritage is maintained for future generations. Instagram

Walking through Gorica is like stepping back in time. The quiet alleys, the scent of blooming flowers in courtyards, and the stunning views across the river create a truly immersive experience. It’s a place where every corner holds a story, and the architecture itself tells tales of the past. TikTok

The Significance of the Gorica Bridge

The Gorica Bridge is more than just a crossing; it's the symbolic link between two of Berat's most historic quarters, Gorica and Mangalem. This elegant stone bridge, which has stood for centuries, offers one of the most iconic and breathtaking views of Berat, often referred to as the 'city of a thousand windows.' From the bridge, visitors can admire the cascading houses of Mangalem on one side and the equally charming, though often quieter, Gorica Quarter on the other, all framed by the Osum River. TikTokInstagram

Originally built in 1780 and later reconstructed, the bridge has witnessed countless historical events and remains a vital part of the city's identity. It provides a crucial pedestrian connection, allowing easy access for exploring both sides of the river. The views from the bridge are particularly spectacular during sunrise and sunset, when the ancient stone glows in the warm light. TikTok

Many visitors find the Gorica Bridge to be a perfect spot for photography and a central point for orientation. It’s a place where you can pause, take in the panoramic scenery, and truly appreciate the unique beauty of Berat's UNESCO World Heritage status. Instagram
